Falling
It smells like a forest floor, mix of mud and fallen leaves,
Leaves a rotten taste in your mouth for you to chew on, swallow,
Chills to the touch, trail freezes over if you try to follow,
Ancestors’ screams fill your ears, unsolved transgressions,
Sparks of your children’s dreams flutter,
Closed camera shutter, lights flicker out in their eyes,
This is what death feels like;
Like missing a step,
falling,
into a surreal s e p a ration.
All hope and happiness disappears,
A strange sensation takes their place,
Slithers down spine,
As if you won’t be able to,
Crack a smile,
Double over in laughter,
For the rest of your years.
